A refreshing contrast to progressivism

It's disturbing how much of Ayn Rand's fictional tale matches America today. The average American breaks 3 felonies a day, and anyone who operates their own business knows that they're probably breaking dozens of laws somewhere on the books. This gives the government the power to shut down anyone they please.

As a Christian, I don't agree with Rand's belief that religion is a large part of the problem. In fact, I think it's telling that in communist regimes, they work so hard to eliminate religious people (especially Christians). Regardless, I do find Rand's "Objectivism" to be a nice contrast to what is currently being taught in America's colleges.

so much of it sounds like the economic climate we are living in today

This is the second time I read this book and I still noticed new things since the last time I read it. It still amazes me that, although it was written decades ago, so much of it sounds like the economic climate we are living in today! Innovation and productivity are not valued and the government plans for entitlements rewarding the "takers" are alive and well today as they were in Atlas Shrugged. It is a bit unsettling, as Ms. Rand shows us a world crumbling under the circumstances created by the government controls and regulations. We can only hope that life does not mimic art in the case of this book.
I would recommend that anyone seriously willing to consider our economic problems of today should read this book and consider the things that would need to be changed to avoid the same ending.

The Good: Presents a concept clearly - that civilization is ...

The Good: Presents a concept clearly - that civilization is supported and driven by achievers; the civilization is held back and drained by moochers with no work ethic; that wealth earned through achievement is deserved and that government bureaucrats/regulations drain wealth from doers and give it to moochers. Rand presents these ideas through a stark storyline, black-or-white characters, and an apocalyptic crumbling society. These stark brushstrokes make her unconventional ideas stand out clearly. Interestingly, Rand strikes me as being from another planet. I enjoyed reading someone make the case the greed is good and charity is evil. I mean, who else does that?

The Bad: The book is four times as long as required. Rand batters the same single message home on every single page of the 1168 page book. By page 200, you totally get it. Her hero goes on a 60 page tirade, for example. While the stark execution effectively lays out Rand's philosophy, the black-and-white bold stroke style cripples the storytelling. The heroes are extremely similar and simple with no (few) weaknesses. The villains are extremely similar and simple with no strengths. The population itself is absent from the story. All characters are infinitely competent viceless rational industrial titans or worthless soft-mouthed spineless groupthink politicians/bureaucrats. No middle ground exists, which is exactly what Rand believed. Problem is that middle ground does exist in reality. Communism does not work. Laissez-faire capitalism is extremely brutal for 99% of people.

Conclusion: First, the book is way longer than required to achieve its own goals. Read the first 200 pages, and then check the CliffsNotes for the ending. Atlas Shrugged gives one end of a spectrum of thinking. The characters and society presented are so simplified and stark as to be disconnected from reality. The concept that some produce, while many do not is important and true. For example, when was the last time that you invented something, ran a railroad or created a job? How to distribute the rewards in our society is an important question. The book is absolutely great food for thought and conversation fodder on that topic, but it is only one end of a spectrum of thinking. I recommend asking yourself if the greed-is-good philosophy is right, partially right, totally right? Why or why not? What do right and wrong mean regarding societal wealth distribution? The fact that Rand seems to come from an alternate universe (her hairstyle says it all) gives us a chance to examine assumptions we might not realize we have made.

Change your paradigms, change your life!

I have a whole bookshelf dedicated to Law of Attraction books; even a few of which are based on "quantum science" and promise that if I tap into the field of unlimited potential just right, all of my wishes will come true.

And where I've had nominal advances in changing my life, I still tend to pick up any book that says anything like "here is the real secret you need to get this stuff to work even better" only to find after reading the book that I've already read about that particular "secret." I found myself feeling over read and under done, and knew I really needed to just focus on living what I'd read about.

So, needless to say, when I received my kindle edition of "Why Quantum Physicists Do Not Fail," I may have been open minded, but still expected to breeze through the book, reading the same thing put a different way.

This was not the case! Though yes, if you are a student of LOA, and have ready any of the books out there, you will read about some familiar concepts.

What I liked that was different:

For one thing, in the few books on quantum physics I've read, the author tends to say things like "quantum physics has found..." but not give any references? So how do I know they are not just making this stuff up? Greg offers references and suggested reading. I liked that he was getting his information from a source, and not third or fourth hand from someone saying "quantum science has found..." And where Greg may have said this too (I don't actually remember) I DO remember his sources, and even looked a couple of them up myself!

He talks about paradigms.

"...paradigms tell us why we do things the way we do them. Our paradigms are the umbrella under which all the things we do make sense to us; they are, in fact, the reasons we do things the way we do them." ~ From the book - (location 167).

Our paradigms can change when we receive new information.

Unfortunately, the majority of people hold paradigms that are quite old. And, these paradigms haven't been updated at all. I think it's funny when you consider that most people don't even use the same cell phone for more than a year, yet are happily working out of paradigms that could be thousands of years old.

Fortunately, we can update our paradigms once we know that there was something we didn't know.

Greg's book is a comprehensive guide to updating paradigms in a way that's easy, understandable, and VERY clear!

He also points out some things that are notorious for holding us back - even when we are taking all the right actions!

Did you know you may have a cellular addiction that is keeping you in a space of negative thinking?

Did you know that your expectations are as important as your actions?

Did you know that most popular culture goes to great lengths to convince you that you are flawed and limited so that they may sell you a product to make you "better?"

Did you know "telling it like it is" may be different than "telling it like you see it?"

I will say that I liked this book well enough to write out key points and tape them up on my wall so that they'd sink in. I truly believe that we were all meant to not just live life, but live it abundantly. Deep inside each of us is a tender and precious heart that aspires to something greater than the limitations we put on ourselves. Deep inside each of us is a radiant light meant to shine bright. I think that every day, more and more people are feeling this inside of them, and longing to get out of that teeny fish tank of a life. "Why Quantum Physicists Do Not Fail" gave me new tools that feel good to use, and I can see (and feel) them making a difference little by little, every day; they move me toward a brighter expression of myself!

(Note: this book was a gift from the author, given to me for the purpose of reviewing. I don't know him, have never met him, and seriously, if I couldn't have gotten through the first couple of chapters of this book - a review would never have even been written because I tend to not want to waste my time on books I don't like.)

Absolutely Genius!

I have read thousands of books on every topic from Law of Attraction to Quantum Physics, read all of Lynn McTaggart books including "The Field" and the "Intention Experiment", watched the movie "What the Bleep..". "The Power of Now", everything the Hicks wrote, literally a thousand books on the topic of Energy / Quantum Field. And this book just puts all the pieces together and makes them all make sense.

I am currently reading this book by Joyce Meyer "Change your words, change your life" and if you are a believer in God and you read this book while you read "Why Quantum Physicists Do Not Fail" you will get an epiphany. The truth unfolds right there in front of you. I had to sit back and take a breath of fresh air; it's more overwhelming than one could possibly imagine.

I would highly recommend reading "The Field" by Lynn McTaggart as well. Then read these scriptures such as Mark 11: 22-23. Matthew 18:19, Philippians 2:14, Proverbs 4:20-27, 1 Peter 4:8-10, and Romans 12:1-2. Those are just a few scriptures that tie into this book.

After you read the books I recommended and watch the movie "What the Bleep do we know" & "Everything is Spiritual" by Rob Bell your mind will be enlightened to a greater truth that will change your life forever!!!

Now I know why Greg is called the "Science Guy" when it comes to the Law of Attraction. Greg In 146 pages gives you a clear, concise, practical explanation of Quantum Physics and then gives you 3 simple steps and 6 powerful tools to help you to consciously use this science to create the circumstances and experiences you want. That's a tall order, but Greg nails it. This book is for you if you find yourself falling short of your goals and dreams, because it will give you the edge you seek to turn your failures into successes in rapid time!

Moderately good

This book is good for Labview intermediate programmers. It sort of seems hard for a beginner. It does not go into great depths and tricks of programming in labview. if you are in the learning curve this books adds more to that. It is very limited in certain aspects, like real time programming, and does not explain much about DAQ mx. This book is great for people as reference but I guess there lots more to be added.

It did help me intially as I got into more programming, it would not help me.

Needs more basic information on LABVIEW, and less chat.

I recently needed to get into Labview and so bought this book; and was disappointed. I would not describe the book as practical - a practical book is succinct, and provides the essential information the reader needs to understand the subject. The book is too chatty and long-winded; the author keeps 'beating around the bush' rather than clearly presenting the basics of Labview. When will authors realise that practical books on software packages need to contain NUMEROUS SIMPLE EXAMPLES, with each element of the program fully explained in the text? By proving this, the author helps the reader to understand how the software functions, and enables them to build up their own applications in a modular fashion. Unfortunately, rather than providing this, 'Labview Graphical Programming' frustrates the reader by forcing them to wade through hundred of pages on topics such as the development history and the intricacies of the functionality of Labview. It might be of use to a person who is already familiar with Labview and is currently using it.

For those of you who do not have this book, this book is one of the top Labview books available. It goes very quickly through the basics, and focuses more on building actual applications in Labview. Omya International AG, has been engaged in the development of hydro-fillers for the automotive industry at Akzo Coatings in Stuttgart, after his apprenticeship of a paint laboratory assistant (1985-88). During his studies he joined the industrial research centre of Rohm and Haas, Philadelphia and the R+D lab for photo initiators at Ciba-Geigy, Basel. 1996 he acquired his engineer degree in the fields of paints, lacquers and plastics (M.Eng.) at the University of Applied Science in Stuttgart. Today, he is employed at Omya International as Head of Applied Technology Services for Paints, Coatings & Adhesives with global responsibility for development and technical service.

A urine inducing good time for all!

I laughed, I cried, I wet my pants. This play baffles me beyond any knowledgeable thought. Well, actually Durang baffles me and leaves me pondering, "Hmmm, tuna samich or turkey?" Other than that, this is perhaps one of the greatest plays of this century. I wipes the floor with Hamlet-it's got suspense, it's got sex(well, it's sort of spoken about) and it's got tuna fish. These are all admirable traits, of course, but the one thing that sticks out in my mind, besides the spike that I drove in there for lack of anything better to do after finishing every Durang play I could get my hands on, is the dialogue between Gabriel and God discussing AIDS. Nothing, shall I repeat? Nothing can beat Laughing Wild....I guarantee! One quick disclaimer, don't leave this around where chiluhns can get a hold of it, they may be scarred for life and join a circus, or a monastery, or worst of all....a bunch of kids that like absurdist playwrites!

Laughing Wild amist severest Woe.

Christopher Durang has always had a penchant for coming into our lives and changing them a bit. He sometimes offends us and many times makes us laugh, but any reaction to his work is what is is shooting for. Laughing Wild was written after Christopher Durang got fed up with the business of New York. What started as a single monologue blossomed into an entire evening of theatre. Laughing Wild is a brilliantly written, and touching views on the realities of lonely people struggling to find themselves, and even love in a fast paced, brutal world. Calling Laughing Wild a comedy truly downplays the value of it to its audience. It is an honest attempt to bring real people forward without much hidden meaning or subtext. I definately recommend this play. It is not the flashiest, funniest, or most popular of Durang's work, but you will be moved.
