David holds a degree in History and Philosophy, and serves on the boards of Somerset Conservation District, Stonycreek-Conemaugh River Improvement Project, and Natural Biodiversity.

Kristin Sewak is the founder of Natural Biodiversity, a nonprofit organization dedicated to restoring biodiversity within landscapes and involving people in environmental solutions. This book is very helpful

I got this for my Kindle and have been reading up on it the last day or so. They are fairly comprehensive on all aspects of mushroom growing and types AND the business end of it if you decide you want to go there.

Do not buy this first!!

there is a lot of good information in this book, however it does not go into great detail about actually growing mushrooms. It actually tells you to go elsewhere for that information. This is a book you need if you are interested in selling mushrooms. To grow mushrooms get Paul stamets the mushroom cultivator and growing edible and medicinal mushroom(also I would say you really need both of those)

It also very often mentioned something worth seeing without giving a street. The write-ups were too general and only gave a vague idea of where to go and what to do. Good read but 'Good in Bed' still better

I think this one rare situation where the movie was better than the book - the book still captures the style that I like about Jennifer Weiner but it isn't as absorbing as 'Good in Bed' and i think the movie really took its strengths and reduced the weaknesses while still delivering the same message (good job!). That said, if you like this author then this is still a good read, but tend to agree with other reviewers that Maggie is more of a horrible person that could be tolerated plus there were parts of story that could have been missed ie meeting up with the characters from 'Good in Bed' as that didn't go anywhere.

So 3 stars as my litmus test is do i want to reread it straight away, do i keep thinking about it afterwards? (even for chick lit) at this point i would say it'll be a while before i feel like reading it again, compared to 'Good in Bed' and others.

Actually 3.5 stars, and better than Good in Bed...

I was not sufficiently impressed with Good in Bed, but after seeing the previews for the movie based on this book, I thought it looked interesting, as my sisters and I are all very different from each other...this book was a fast read and I definitely found the subject matter more interesting than Good in Bed, as it forced Jennifer Weiner to see life through the eyes of two very different women; however, it was still a little too saccharine for me. OF COURSE Rose would find the love of her life and marry him in the end, and OF COURSE she would forgive her impetuous younger sister for "stealing" her beau from the beginning of the novel. This is real life, folks...I can't imagine my sisters doing such a thing to me, but I know that if they did, no little-known grandmother or handmade wedding dress could make things okay again.

I couldn't wait to receive this book in the mail...With much anticipation after reading Good in Bed...I am finished. You really feel connected w/the characters Maggie & Rose. They loose their Mother at an early age, have to grow up with a Step-Monster named Sydelle who is addicted to Botox and lead totally different lives. Rose (the not so pretty, smart one) and Maggie (the beautiful, rebellious, say anything/do anyting type). They have a love/hate relationship with each other but learn that the bond that sisters share is a special one despite the problems that they have to deal with.
This book should definetley be on your wish list!!

An essential early American novel

James Fenimore Cooper's novel "The Last of the Mohicans" (subtitled "A Narrative of 1757"), is a remarkable book for many reasons. First published in 1826, the book represents an early attempt to create substantial literary art from the material of North American history and geography. Although the book has its flaws, it is for the most part a success.
In the novel, the white woodsman Hawk-eye and his Mohican Indian comrade Chingachgook join forces to help the daughters of a white military officer through hostile territory. The story takes place in a colonial American setting marked by conflict between French and English forces -- a conflict that also involves various Indian nations.
There are a number of exciting (and often graphically violent) scenes of battle and chase. Hawk-eye, a white man who, to a large degree, rejects European-American values, is a fascinating figure -- indeed, he is one of the most enduring fictional creations in all of United States literature. Through the mouths of Hawk-eye and the various Indian characters, Cooper offers some intriguing criticisms of white culture.
As I said, the book is not without flaws. The momentum of the book lags for a brief stretch, and some of Cooper's characters (in particular, his women) at times sound a bit stereotypical. But the overall power and intelligence of Cooper's work is undeniable. Particularly impressive is his re-creation of a multilingual world of complex cultural and personal conflict. Also noteworthy is his evocation of the American landscape. A tale of death and survival, of betrayal and loyalty, and, above all, of the extraordinary bond between a white man and an Indian, "The Last of the Mohicans" is one classic that deserves to be read and reevaluated by each generation.

Voice of the Wilderness

Like the Star Wars movies, Cooper's Leatherstocking Tales were written out of sequence. In their chronological order, with their order of publication in parentheses, they are: The Deerslayer (5), The Last of the Mohicans (2), The Pathfinder (4), The Pioneers (1) and The Prairie (3). So if you want to read them in either chronological or published order, you should read Mohicans second. But each novel is self-contained, so if you want to try just one, to decide if the rest are worth reading, then Mohicans is the one to start with, as it is his most famous work and generally acknowledged to be his best.

The hero of these tales, the improbably named Nathaniel Bumppo (or Natty, or Deerslayer, or Hawkeye, or The Long Rifle, or...etc, etc) was the first, and remains the quintessential, all-American fictional hero; brave, noble, honest and more at home in the wilderness than the town. He is not however, the strong, silent type. He has a habit of launching into long, rambling streams of homespun philosophy at the drop of a coonskin cap. Never mind that lead shot is flying thick and fast around his ears, he will lean on his rifle and expound on the different natures of Indians and whites, or the evils of literacy.

The plot of Mohicans is action-packed, but is linear - no surprise twists, and no sub-plots - and contains some highly improbable elements. Well, would you be fooled by an enemy disguised as a beaver? Michael Mann's excellent 1992 screen version reworked the plot extensively, to its advantage.

Cooper was the first distinctively American novelist and was inspired by Walter Scott, the inventor of the historical novel. He was consciously attempting to emulate Scott but, although he writes quite well, he lacks Scott's lyricism. And his characters, specially the women, are resiliently two-dimensional. But he did capture the spirit of the frontier, the pride and pain of a new and growing country, and in doing so created myths out of America's past that have survived, evolved, and have sustained the nation, ever since.

a piece of history

I thought that this was an excellent study of the European-Indian relationships and intertribal relationships among the Americam Indians. There are some gruesome scenes; I feel it is probably a fairly accurate account of practices at that time amongst those tribes. At times the narrative gets wordy because of the details of the history and traditions. I can't believe this book was taught in the 5-8 grades in this country 30 years ago. I don't think the majority of 12th graders could read this book with ease.

Great Book!!!!

Haley is usaually no trouble for the BSC. But Claudia catches her lying and Haley gets grounded. Haley is so mad she decideds to spred mean rumers against the BSC. She tells them that the BSC can't be trusted and then to make it worse, she tells MORE lies to back it up! Claudia and the BSC have to find a way to tell the kids the truth. But who will they believe? The BSC or Haley? This book is good. I recommend you read it. You learn how telling lies just piles up and you get stuck in your lies. Haley illustrates it reall well. Claudia does solve the problem but how? You'll have to read it!!!!

A Great Book!

There are three story lines in this great BSC book. First Haley is tellin tons of lies to get out of doing her homework. She blames Claudia for everything. She tells the other kids that the BSC is a netwrk of spies who like to tattle on them. The BSC needs to find a way to get the kids to believe them. Second, Kristy is coaching a girls basketball team. Haley is on the team and she has to learn to sho good sportswomen ship. Third, Claudia is a little unsure about her relonship with Josh. She like him, sure but she doesn't feel any romantic feelings toward him. She even lies to him. They decided their much better off as friends then boyfriend and girlfriend. This was great book. It teaches you a really valuable lesson. This wasn't the best, but it was still a great book.

Haley has never given the BSC problems before, but now she is always lying her way through everything. Unfortunately, Claudia is caught in the middle because Haley accuses Claudia of being a liar and a snitch. A lot of the kids that the BSC babysits for are starting to doubt if they can trust the girls, and things get real messy. This story is very interesting to read because it shows how manipulative kids are at this age, and how if they truly believe something is true-they can convince others of this as well. The story has a very psychological theme to it, as you will see when you read it. Also, I really enjoyed the side story with Claudia and her boyfriend as well.

Also, this book is sold on ebay for a lot cheaper for anyone who is interested.

You learn something new every day!

I got my real estate license in 1996, and, in the ensuing 18 years, I've worked an agent, manager, and owner for companies big and small, including RE/MAX, Coldwell Banker, EXIT Realty, and, now, Keller Williams. Consequently, I like to think that I've pretty much seen it ALL with regard to training and theory in the various aspects of conducting, maintaining, and generating business in the real estate industry. By chance, I had the opportunity to hear Brent Gove speak at a recent function, and I left his session feeling a regenerated sense of enthusiasm that, frankly, can be illusive at this point in my career. Realizing what a valuable resource Brent could turn out to be, I ran to the nearest computer and ordered his book.
What I got from Brent is an abundance of new ideas, all presented in a fresh and engaging fashion. He has a great story, and he's a compelling guy. I would venture to say that MOMENTUM is the best ten bucks I've invested in my career, well, ever...!
As an aside, I would encourage anyone who has the opportunity to hear Brent speak in person, to make it a priority to attend, that is unless you don't like learning a lot and laughing your ass off in the process.

Some New Ideas as Well as Updates to Old Ones

Has a lot of great ideas. Doing open houses is not esactly an original idea however the author has implemented some ideas that make open houese much more effective.

The author espouses some other ideas, such as working with a high volume of buyers, that are contrary to industry norms.

Over all, a good quick read and provides some new ideas as well as updates to old ones.

First of all let me say that I am a big fan of Ted Bell. I have read all of his books including his Nick of Time books. I look forward to his next book, Phantom.

My issue with this short story was it's length; I have read other short stories by well known authors, one that comes to mind is Steve Berry. These were also .99 cents and were about 6-10 chapters in length and provided a short but well rounded story. This short story, Crash Dive, was about 1 chapter and about 30 some pages. Then they follow it up with a 98 page excerpt from Phantom.

The story was a very quick fun read, but I feel as though I was duped.

I did not expect the download to be 85% content for a book that comes out later this month.

In the future, I hope the author and the publisher would be more open with what one is purchasing.

NOW YOU CAN READ THE WHOLE STORY...

This short was published as part of a promotion for the new Alex Hawke book. A LOT of people were very dissatisfied
and for that I am very sorry. It was never meant to be more than what it is, a slice of a novel that at the time had not been
written. The scene in CRASH DIVE opens the new Hawke book. Without giving away spoilers I can say that it is what I hoped
it would be, a chance for readers to see the real Alex Hawke, the man, and the WARRIOR. I want to apologize to everyone
who feels they were misled and did not receive their money's worth. It is my intention to make that up to them when they
see how the story plays out full length. Believe me, such a mistake will not be made again. And I apologize for my lack of
foreseeing how this thing might have been perceived.
